Bio

British b.1979

Ellie Contreras evokes a contemporary feminine mythology with her confident brushstrokes and Curvilinear Forms. After gaining a degree in graphic design, she worked in the graphic design industry for several years, this background in design can be seen in her careful colour palettes and bold composition choices.

Influenced by her battles with addiction and Breast Cancer Ellie represents the inner strength and resilience of her female characters from mythology and literature. Her work is influenced by early twentieth-century artists particularly Picasso and Matisse, she is drawn to the freedom of this intuitive style of painting, allowing her to invent her own distinct visual language. Ellie’s work has been exhibited in galleries and art fairs in London and the South East and in 2021 she had a painting selected for The Discerning Eye Exhibition at the Mall Galleries.
